Do you love a bunch of fresh flowers in your home?

Updated: Jan 6, 2024

Do you love having a vase of flowers on your bench? A few weeks ago, I bought a bunch of locally grown natives at the Tooleybuc Harvest Festival, and after months of not having any flowers in the house, I began to realise how much better they made our house feel.

During the summer and autumn, my house is usually full of flowers. I never really thought much about it until I went through a few months without them. When I finally had flowers again, I realized just how much I had missed having them around. I now understand how important they are to me.

Why do we put flowers in our homes?

The act of bringing freshly picked flowers from the garden into the home has been a cherished tradition for generations. It's a practice that we should hope never fades away, as there are numerous benefits to it. For instance, flowers can act as natural air purifiers, and the colors can uplift our mood. Having something fresh and natural in our room can also help us connect more with nature. Moreover, a vase of flowers can instantly freshen up any room.

How do you care for fresh flowers?

If you’re like me, you’ll want to get at least a week out of a bunch of flowers. Here are a few tried and true tips on keeping your flowers fresh:

  • Make sure the vase has clean water. Once the water goes cloudy, it’s time to change the water.

  • Cut the bottoms of the stems to provide a healthy opening for the water to travel up.

  • Remove the dead leaves and foliage.

  • Give your flowers some food. We include a satchel which is specially formulated to hydrate and nourish all varieties of flowers.

What to look for when purchasing a bunch?

When standing in front of a display of fresh flower bunches, it can often be hard to select ‘the best one’. Here are a few things to consider:

  • Look for robust stems.

  • Avoid broken or damaged flower heads.

  • Look for a bunch that is bright in colour.

  • Choose flowers that haven’t had to travel too far.
